Make Surprise-Inside Cakes – Surprise-Inside Cakes Book By Amanda Rettke

Bunny Cake One thing I love about cake decorating is that it’s not always about what’s on the outside, but sometimes, it’s what’s on the inside that brings the most joy and surprise.  So, imagine my “surprise” when I discovered an awesome book that shows me how I can make surprise-inside cakes.

And the heaven’s opened up and the angels cried out “Hallelujah!”

Surprise-Inside Cakes by Amanda Rettke

Surprise Inside cake book Surprise-Inside Cakes is a great cake recipe book and tutorial wrapped into one. Written by Amanda Rettke, also known as I AM BAKER from iambaker.netAmanda gives you step-by-step instructions on how to create some of her best surprise-inside cakes.  Each recipe, and there 5 cake recipes and 4 frosting recipes, allows you to make dozens of great designs ranging from easy, like the Stripe Birthday cake… Screenshot (116) …to more challenging, like the ring cake. Ring Cake Based on four techniques, Surprise-Inside Cakes gives you confidence and inspiration in creating Amanda’s cakes or diving into your imagination to create your own designs.  Here are the four techniques:Surprise Inside cake book

  • Deconstruction – Taking the cake apart and using cake and frosting to make designs
  • Baked cake inside of batter – Adding already baked cake to batter and baking again
  • Batter manipulation – Mixing different colored batter inside the pan before baking
  • Hidden Surprises – Hiding treats, like candy, in a hollowed out middle

My Own Attempts

I tried, a few years back, to make my own surprise-inside cakes and they turned out better than I thought they would for a first-timer.  This was before I even knew this book existed.  Now that I see there is more you can do with cake, the sky’s the limits.  I cannot wait to dive deep into this book and start creating.

Wow what a great idea. Especially for adults. I love the bunny cake. Anybody who knows me know I would love that!! I think cakes can make great gifts.

    • Amanda says:

I think so too, Vanessa. Especially when you have to put in several hours and a good amount of money into it. These cakes can take up to a couple of days to make so I call that a great gift. I want to try the bunny cake for Easter because it is so cute. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.

I too have a passion for baking and food in general lol I love the concept of an inside out cake! I am going to have to try this. I make all my sons b-day cakes so this should be fun! Your site is so much fun. I will be back for more 🙂 Thanks!

These cakes are really fun, especially if no one knows that you did anything to the inside. I love the idea of the surprise. Please do come back when you can, I will have a lot of great recipes and tips in the future. I will be returning to your site too. I loved the advice on picky eaters. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

What beautiful cakes! I tried making a rainbow cake from a box this past summer, and I failed miserably. The cake mix was inferior, to say the least. I’m excited to try it again, from scratch. Your cakes turned out beautifully!

    • Amanda says:

Thanks so much Stephanie. I didn’t have this book to help me figure out how to do the flag or checkered pattern, so it was a lot of trial and error, but it worked out pretty good. I haven’t tried a rainbow cake but I’m sure I will be making one in the near future.

Have fun trying it out again. Post back here when you do and let me know how it went. 🙂

I LOVE this idea!! Have seen the layered one before, but never the one’s with the cute little patterns throughout!! Thank you for sharing!! =)

You’re welcome, Zoe. I know what you mean about the cute little designs inside. I had no idea this even existed, at least when it comes to the ring cake or the bunny cake. I can’t wait to try them all myself. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
